What burning love is this?
What foolishness?
That hides and waits
and endures every indifference
and worse
for our sake?
What burning love
hidden in bread and wine
before our clouded eyes?
The same love that forced Heaven asunder
silently
that the Creator of the universe
the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob,
the Promised One,
might become a creature
quietly
and bring forth the dawning of a new day
under cover of night.
The love that moved the God-Man
to live in poverty
dine with sinners
and walk the dusty roads
in search of us.
The love that proved itself
by embracing a passion so fierce
the women wept.
And the man was a worm.
Taunted.
Yet begging forgiveness
for his murderers.
The same love that poured itself out
utterly
literally
in the last drops of blood and water
falling from a heart no longer able to beat.
The love that only appears foolish
to the worldly.
But to those who know His voice,
the love of a God who knows us intimately
who wants to feed us
and satisfy our deepest hunger.
Who wants to course through our very veins
become one with us
as an example and invitation
to become one with Him.
The love that would sacrifice itself
over and over again
to prove its depth.
The same infinite eternal ineffable
mighty all-embracing omniscient love that is true power
restrained
to a whisper
so that the children that we are
may have no fear drawing close.
Taste and see
the goodness of the Lord.
